General
All glider flying at the Bristol & Gloucestershire Gliding club takes place under the auspices of the British Gliding Association within the legislative structure of the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). You will fly at the Club as a Temporary or Guest member, subject to the BGGC Club Rules.
Please read the briefing document below and be aware that Trial Flights are subject to the Terms and Conditions Below.
FAQ, Notes, Terms and Conditions
01 Can I return during the Temporary Membership Period?
Initial Temporary membership period is 4 weeks, but will be extended to 8/12 weeks if you visit the club again for a return flight within each 4 week period. During this period of Temporary Membership additional flights (Winch or Aero-tow) are available at standard club rates. If you wish to continue your training after this then the club offers various membership options.
02 Is the flight duration guaranteed?
Flight times are dependent on the weather conditions and may vary (longer or slightly shorter) depending on atmospheric conditions and soaring potential on the day.
03 What are the height, weight and mobility requirements?
Please note that for a trial flight the participant must be between 1.40m to 1.93m (4'7'' to 6'4'') and weigh less than 102 kg (16 stone). For safety reasons you must be able to get into and out of the glider with minimal assistance (this is roughly equivalent to getting in or out of a bath-tub). If in doubt please call us.
04 What Happens Next?
Once you have completed your purchase via PayPal the BGGC Office will be notified automatically and will contact you with details of your voucher and booking information. Please allow up to 5 working days for this process.
Note: if you have any issues with PayPal please call the office to purchase.
05 What data do you store about me?
The BGGC will store personal details as required to process this transaction, this will include your name, address and date of birth (if relevant). No sensitive financial data is store by the BGCC.
Note: if you have any issues with PayPal please call the office to purchase.
06 Which days do you operate on?
Standard and High trial flights are offered on any day we are flying through the year, Mile High flights are normally carried out Mon-Fri, but may be offered at weekends in the winter months. All flights should be booked via the office, subject to suitable conditions on the day, and can be re-booked if the weather is unsuitable.
07 Does it depend on the weather?
Like most forms of general aviation we need suitable weather (not always guaranteed in the UK!). We need the base of any extensive cloud cover to be high enough for the launch height you have chosen, visibility of (ideally) 10km or better, and not raining! On some windy days we might advise against first flights (as it will be turbulent) - we cannot operate safely in very severe winds. If the weather is unsuitable on the day we will try to contact you to reschedule another day, or alternatively we may suggest you wait if we expect conditions improve later that day.
08 Can I buy a voucher for someone else?
You can buy the voucher as a gift, please check that you are happy with the Height / Weight / Mobility requirements and other terms and conditions.
09 How long is the voucher valid for?
Trial Flight vouchers are valid 12 months from the date of issue.
